The “Still, Small Voice” rarely speaks over the noise of our striving. It waits for the wind to die down and the fire to cool. It waits for us to reach the cave.

This Greenhouse is a guided retreat for the weary. Before you begin, prepare your space:

  • The Bread: Toast a slice of bread so the smell fills the room, or tear a piece from a fresh loaf.

  • The Water: Pour a cold glass of water.

  • The Atmosphere: Dim the lights, put your phone in another room, and find a chair where you can sit with your feet flat on the floor.

The Call to Rest

In the wilderness, the angel didn’t offer Elijah a sermon. He offered him a loaf baked on hot stones and a jar of water. It was common food for a common struggle. We take this “Communion of the Cave” today to acknowledge that our bodies are the temples where the Spirit resides. We eat because we are human, and we rest because we are loved.
