In the post I shared earlier this week, we talked about the difference between a God of retribution and a God of redemption—the difference between being “weeded out” and being “hugged tight.”

If you feel like you are always being watched critically, or if you worry you need to always do the right thing, or maybe if you have a general, underlying anxiety about doing things right or being successful - these might be signs that you are afraid God is going to weed you out instead of hugging you tight.

I know that shifting your view of the Divine isn’t as simple as flipping a switch. It takes practice to stop flinching at the sky and start looking for the rainbow. It takes time to realize that the “scary God” we were taught about was often just a reflection of human fear, not the heart of the Creator.

Remember how Jesus said, if you have seen me, you have seen the Father. Jesus is often called Love Incarnate, because of his love for us. And Jesus’ love shows us just how much God loves us.
