A Blessing for the One Who Was Kept Small
This week we heard Jesus announce a gospel of real liberation — good news for the poor, the captive, the oppressed. Here is your exhale.
Blessed are you who were handed a faith too small to hold your whole life — you are allowed to let it grow.
Blessed are you who were taught to stay quiet, stay patient, stay small, and call it holiness — the Spirit that was upon Jesus is upon you, and it has never once asked you to disappear.
Blessed are you who are poor in any of the ways a person can be poor — in money, in rest, in safety, in being believed — for the good news was announced, first and on purpose, to you.
And blessed are you who are only beginning to trust that your suffering was never small to God, that your body and your hunger and your one real life are exactly where the good news means to land.
May you come down off the cliff’s edge this week. May you breathe a little deeper. May you take up the room you were always meant to fill.
And may you welcome others to do the same.
You are free. You are welcome. You are loved, exactly as you are.
Rest now. The work will keep till Monday.
