The Saturday Blessing: A Rest from the Audit
As we move into the weekend, I’m thinking about how exhausting it is to be a “gatekeeper.” There is a particular kind of weariness that comes from constantly auditing the lives of others—deciding who has worked hard enough, who is “disabled enough,” or who has “earned” their seat at the table.
Sabbath is the ultimate disruption to that mindset. It is the day where we stop producing and start simply being. If God grants us a day of rest regardless of our output, perhaps we can grant our neighbors the grace of a full life regardless of their bank account.
May this blessing settle into the quiet spaces of your Saturday.
