Welcome to The Greenhouse—our dedicated space each Friday where we take the theology we discussed earlier in the week and plant it directly into our real lives, our relationships, and our bodies. The greenhouse is where we grow so we can put our words into action.

The Foundation We Laid

When we strip away patriarchal tradition and look at Genesis through the lens of Hebrew exegesis, the structural narrative flips completely upside down.

In Genesis 1 and 2, God’s original design for humanity is mutuality and equality. Woman was created as an ezer kenegdo—not a secondary, subordinate assistant, but an equal, face-to-face rescuing strength, standing side-by-side with man in shared stewardship of the earth. Hierarchy was never God’s creation mandate.

Male domination and the subjugation of women enter the story in Genesis 3:16 as the tragic, broken consequences of the Fall. Patriarchy is the curse, not the design. When religious systems teach that male rule is holy, they are taking a symptom of sin and re-labeling it as the will of God.

Jesus came to undo the curse, not sanctify it. Reclaiming the Kingdom means stepping out of the debris of Genesis 3 and returning to the face-to-face equality of the Garden.

1. The Embodied Connection: Where the Curse Lives in the Body

Because many of us were raised to believe that hierarchy was holy, our nervous systems adapted to survive inside rigid structures. When a body is trained to shrink, defer, or walk on eggshells, it carries this information physically as well as mentally and emotionally.

Take a slow breath right now and scan your body. Does any of this feel familiar?

  • The Tight Throat (Suppression): A physical lump or constriction when you want to speak up, state a boundary, or disagree with a religious or male authority figure.

  • Collapsed Shoulders (Shrinking): A habitual rounding of the shoulders forward—a subconscious protective posture designed to make yourself smaller, less noticeable, or “meek.”

  • The Guarded Gut (Hypervigilance): Chronic tension in your stomach, constantly scanning rooms to anticipate the needs, moods, or expectations of others before attending to your own.

Somatic Reset: Place a hand over your chest or stomach. Press gently. Remind your body: “The hierarchy was the brokenness, not my voice. I am allowed to take up space in the Garden.”
