Worksheet: Breaking the Mirror
Deconstructing the “First God” and Reclaiming the True Gaze
This worksheet is designed to bridge the gap between your inner healing and how you show up for the next generation. It moves from the personal realization of the “First God” into the active practice of reflecting a different kind of Divine to your children.
Worksheet: Breaking the Mirror
Deconstructing the “First God” and Reclaiming the True Gaze
The Core Realization: We are often handed a “First God” through our caregivers. If that mirror was cracked, our view of God is distorted. To heal, we must look at Jesus—the only perfect reflection of the Father—and then intentionally adjust how we reflect God to our own children.
The Jesus Correction
Read these moments from the life of Jesus. Contrast them with the “internal parent” you carry.
When you feel “Too Much” or “Untouchable”:
“Jesus reached out his hand and touched the man. ‘I am willing,’ he said. ‘Be clean!’” (Matthew 8:3)
Reflection: Jesus didn’t wait for the man to be “fixed” before touching him. Where do you feel you have to be “clean” before God will look at you? When you feel like you’re “Walking on Eggshells”:
“Jesus wept.” (John 11:35)
Reflection: Jesus doesn’t judge your grief or tell you to “have more faith.” He joins you in it. Does your internal God allow you to be sad? When you feel you must “Perform” to be Loved:
“But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion for him; he ran to his son, threw his arms around him and kissed him.” (Luke 15:20)
Reflection: This is the story Jesus told to describe God. The Father runs before the son apologizes. How does this change your view of repentance?
